• INTRODUCTION:
Electronics plays a vital role in our daily life. It is a key in making this world a small and making everything happen at our finger tips. Indian Railway is one of India's most effective networks that keep together the social, economical, political and cultural fabric of the country intact and it is the most used transportation system in India. But at each railway station we found long queues  at inquiry windows of passengers and it is too time consuming and worthless process and the information provided is also incomplete and improper. The solution of such problem can be achieved by the proposed system. This system will reduce meaningless rush of people at railway platforms. This concept starts with interacting with passengers to pursue their queries about trains and providing the perfect information via SMS to the particular passenger using Embedded system. We have designed such embedded system which will give real time information about arriving time, and departure time of train using GSM and GPS based train location tracking system with SMS facility.

    1.         DETAIL DESCRIPTION PROJECT:
    GPS based train location tracking with SMS facility system aims in providing information of train location on request of passengers through simple SMS. The information is given to the passenger through an SMS to the number through which the location details is requested. This complete system is present in train which has a GPS receiver which continuously gets the location detail through the satellites. This system helps users in arriving to the station at right time and avoids rushing to the station although train is far distance from the station.

    GPS is the acronym for global positioning system. it is employed to find the position where the user is located on the earth. This information is provided by the GPS with the help of the data it receives from the satellite.The controlling part of the whole system is a micro controller. GPS and GSM modem are interfaced to the micro controller. The controller is programmed in such way that is continuously monitors the data from GPS receiver. Whenever a request is received regarding location through GSM modem, it sends the current location information to the number requested through the GSM modem. The micro controller is programmed using embedded c language which provides very effective way of performing the task.
     2. IMPROVING COMMUNICATION PUBLIC AWARENESS
    The Information regarding train schedules, delays, and low accuracy of the schedules are to become worse within the context of expansions and would only result in more time spent on the platform, consequently resulting in public dissatisfaction and frustration. There are several constraints identified that would
    Prevent the railways from providing accurate schedules and other information.
    The static nature of the information sources (ex: static web pages and notifications at stations)
    Deficiencies of the current tracking system General public is made aware of the train schedules using notifications at train station and via the official web site of the railways department. However, none of these methods will provide accurate data as for the static nature of the web site and the notifications at the station. Additionally, the deficiencies of the current tracking system impose constraints on providing accurate, dependable and timely information to the user.
    The switched based tracking system used by the railways department is yet to cover the entire network but would cost a considerable amount for expansion and maintenance thus, emphasizes the need of an alternative that would be more accurate and cost effective. This limits effective decision-making due to inaccuracy and would also lead to accidents.

    3.THE MAJOR FEATURES OF THIS PROJECT   ARE:
